After his parents’ separation, Leigh Botts moves to a new town with his mother and his dog. Struggling to make friends and angry with his absent truck-driver father, Leigh is assigned a school project to write to an author. He begins an ongoing correspondence with Boyd Henshaw, his favorite writer.Â
Through these letters and a private journal, Leigh processes his feelings of loneliness and grief, deals with a mysterious thief who keeps ruining his lunches, and slowly learns to accept his changing family dynamics. The novel is deeply relatable, handling real-world pre-teen challenges like bullying and divorce with a touch of humor and emotional maturity.
