Maud is the polar opposite of her perfect twin sister, Milly. While Milly loves pretty dresses and orderly rooms, Maud is ungraceful and prefers her pet rat, Quentin, to all other company. After Quentin escapes in science class, it is the final straw, and Maud is transferred to Rotwood Middle School.Â
At Rotwood, everyone is dressed like it is Halloween and the school motto is “Because We Scare.” Maud soon realizes that all of the students and teachers are actually monsters. The best part? For the first time in her life, Maud feels like she completely belongs. The only catch: she must trick everyone into believing she is a monster too so she can stay with her new friends.
